AGED PIONEER PASSES
C. C. McCracken, Early Oregon Settler Dies at St. John Sunday
C.C. McCracken, one of Oregon’s earliest and best-known pioneers died at the home of his daughter in St. John, Oregon, Sunday, August 24. Mr. McCracken was 76 years of age at the time of his death.
Early Oregon history will give many interesting accounts of Mr McCracken’s pioneer life in Oregon. He was born in Platte county, Missouri, in 1838, and was one of the early settlers in Oregon crossing the plains with an ox team in 1852. All but five years of his life in Oregon was spent in Dallas. He was an Indian war veteran and was well known throughout this part of the state. Mr. McCracken leaves a widow and two children to mourn his death. They are Mrs. C.C. McCracken, his wife, C.B. McCracken and Mrs. Bert Olin, both of St. John, Ore. He also has three brothers and one sister living – Jasper McCracken of Sonoma county, California; John McCracken of Clackamas county, Oregonl and Berry McCracken of Idaho and Mrs. L. Townsend of this state.
Funeral services were held at St John and the body interred in the Brown cemetery of that city.
