John was a pioneer of 1852. His parents, Anthony Propst and Lucinda Powell Propst, died on the Oregon Trail and since he was almost of age it was decided that he should get land of his own. His claim is located about 2 miles west of the cemetery and as of 2005 was still owned by his descendants.
John was born 12 April 1837 in Sangamon County, Illinois and died 1939 in Albany, Linn, Oregon.
His wife, Margaret, was born May 1843 in Iowa and died in 1919.
